First planned hill town of the Himachal Pradesh District Bilaspur





Bilaspur is  founded in 1663. In 7th century Bilaspur was the capital of a state,also known as
Kahlur. Bilaspur is the first planned hill town of the country. Bilaspur is famous for Bhakra
Nangal Dam, Gobind Sagar lake, Shri Naina Devi Ji Temple, koldam and kandrour bridge and in Barmana city of Bilaspur  there are a one big ACC cement factory. These all places are very famous in Himachal and also in India. Bilaspur is home of some endangered animals like Panther, Chausinga, Sambar, Hyena, Sloth bear, Nilgai, and wild boar. Population of Bilaspur is 13,654 and literacy rate  of bilaspur male literacy is 90.93% and female literacy rate is 77.22%. Bilaspur has six tehsils  namely Ghumarwin, Bilaspur sadar, Naina devi, Bharari, Jhanduta, Namhol.



Famous places in Bilaspur 

Shri Naina Devi Ji Temple

Shari Naina Devi  Temple is one of the most extended places of praise in Himachal. Naina Devi temple is situated 66km from Bilaspur and 89km from Chandigarh. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti peethas, Lord Vishnu cut sati body into 51 pieces to save the Earth from Shiva's wrath these 51 pieces of body called  Shakti Peethas and  the eyes of sati fell in Bilaspur one mountain so these place known as Naina Devi.

Bhakra Dam Bilaspur
 
Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Sutlej River in Bilaspur. There are an another dam Nangal dam in Punjab to stop the downriver of Bhakra Dam. But, sometimes both the dams together are also called Bhakra-Nangal Dam. Bhakra dam is one of the highest gravity dams in the word Bhakra Dam is spread over an area of 168.35 km and its cost is Rs.245.28 crore. It is the only dam in Asia that could produce 1500 MW power. Construction of the dam started in 1948 and finished in 1963. It attracts a large number of tourists, however from 2009 the Bhakra-Nangal dam is banned for tourists.

Gobind Sagar

Gobind Sagar is a man-made reservoir in Bilaspur in 1976 and is named in honor of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru. its source is the Bhakra dam. Gobin Sager is 90 km long and encompasses an area of approximately 170 sq km. it is situated 49km from Bilaspur. 


Kandrour Bridge
Kandraur bridge is the highest bridge in Asia(second highest bridge). This bridge connects Bilaspur and Hamirpur and this bridge built in 1965. This bridge is 80 meters  high from the river bed and 280 meters long. Kandraur bridge is a very old bridge in India and Asia. This bridge one of the highest Bridge in India and Asia. 

 Koldam Dam

Koldam dam is the Hydropower Project of the NTPC Limited in Bilaspur on Sutlej River and this dam started in 2000 by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It generate 800mw electricity. It is 18 km from Bilaspur off the Chandigarh- Manali Highway.
