Mahunag Temple
Mahunag Temple, a renowned historical site in Karsog, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. While there are numerous Mahunag temples throughout Himachal Pradesh, this particular temple is considered the principal one, often referred to as Mul Mahunag. It is situated 32 kilometers from the Karsog bus stand and 84 kilometers from Shimla, perched atop a hill that offers stunning panoramic views. Each year, local residents celebrate a fair at the temple during May and June.
Traveling from Karsog, we embarked on our journey to the temple located 32 km away at 1 PM, accompanied by friends in our private vehicle. The initial stretch of the road from Karsog to Churag is well-maintained and accessible, though it narrows significantly afterward. Despite this, the route remains safe for driving at a moderate speed. We arrived at our destination in approximately one and a half hours.
This temple boasts impressive size and beauty from its exterior, offering stunning views of surrounding mountains, apple orchards, and numerous Himalayan cedar trees.
To experience the beauty of Mahunag and offer your prayers to Mahuang God, visit this location and immerse yourself in its charm.
